TASK 1: Pick an interview from the list above, and make detailed notes as you listen to or read it - pay attention to Hughes’ personal beliefs, thoughts and opinions. 

TASK 2: Find 3 different recordings of Hughes’ poems and listen to him read them aloud. Do you notice anything different about them? Pay attention to his intonation and emphasis, and think about how this makes you focus on specific words or phrases. 

EXTENSION TASK: Read or listen to all of the interviews above and immerse yourself in Hughes’ world. As you go, make notes on his character, personality and interests. At the end of your listening, make a ‘Character profile’ for Hughes that presents his character and personality in detail.
