AQA GCSE English Grade Boundaries for 2024

Firstly, it’s important to note that grade boundaries change a bit each year - so if you’re wanting to secure a specific grade, for example a Grade 8, then I would recommend getting to a point where your writing is consistently at least 3-4 marks into an 8, just in case the boundaries shift a bit on the year of your specific exam.

If you’re struggling with revision or need to boost your grade, take a look at our Complete AQA GCSE Language Revision Course below:

Ok, so here’s the breakdown of grade boundaries for the AQA GCSE English Language papers:

Total Mark for Papers: 160

Grade 9  121

Grade 8 111

Grade 7 102

Grade 6 91

Grade 5 80

Grade 4 70

Grade 3 52

Grade 2 34

Grade 1 16

To understand how this applies to specific questions, you need to convert it to percentages:

Grade 9  76%

Grade 8  69%

Grade 7  64%

Grade 6 57%

Grade 5 50%

Grade 4 44%

Grade 3 33%

Grade 2 21%

Grade 1 10%

So, to figure out your grade on a specific question, you want to find the percentage that you got for that question, and use the list above to give you the exact grade.

Example: 19/25 = 76%, which is a Grade 9.
